I just tested the sources from [2], package built fine with the supplied config.amd64 (except for lots of questions of course). I also installed it, and an uml with etch booted up nicely. I'll do a bit more testing and will send you a diff for the adjusted config.amd64 in the next 1-2 days. Thanks for the help!
