Well, not entirely, I still had to work around things with an incredible configuration hack... :-( With some more horrible hacking, it seems to be possible to make Matrox' Hallib, and thus DVI, work with later X.org versions, too, see [1]. But actually, the unbelievable hassle of those procedures has stopped me from upgrading my desktop to Etch till now.
