Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.7.3.5

Hello,

I am not sure if the right package is mozilla or mozilla-browser.

My local ext2 filesystem uses utf-8 encoded names. However, when
downloading some files (with iso-8859-1 filenames) from the WWW,
Mozilla (or the download manager) saves them as they are, thus creating
invalid utf-8 sequences.

The operating system seems to allow them to be written without
complaining but the names are invalid nevertheless. They confuse some
programs, like mkisofs when the Joliet extension is enabled and the
names are being interpreted as utf-8.

It would be good to avoid this behaviour or to warn. (I am afraid
Mozilla has no way to know about the assumed filename encoding, has
it? Or should the operating system translate the names somehow?)

Example: the textfile in
http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~ut13/testfiles/

(wget has the same problem, I have reported it as bug #303552)
