I've just received a tip on this issue: could you please install xdg-utils (it is really small) and try those two commands:
1) xdg-open http://debian.org 2) xdg-open mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] And tell what it started? Otherwise, there is no reliable way to find out what the user's preferred browser is across the different desktop environments. If the above works, I'd use this, otherwise I may implement a config option for the preferred browser.
