Ok, I should try with my old PentiumIII Coppermine.

(linux-image-2.6.18-4-686) but I can only do that this week-end, not

No, no need to update the kernel. It was only an idea of which kind of
kernel did you use.  Latter it was included a new method to load
microcode, and some bugs was introduced (and corrected).

I've try to convert the microcode.dat file with dos2unix but I
receive the same result.

surelly! microcode.ctl reads the text file and it convert
to binary for kernel. If it was a problem with the format,
you had seen an error from microcode.ctl and not from the
kernel.

I will investigate.
