I installed the Spanish locales on my system and it seemed to work
well using UTF-8. There seems to be a problem with ISO-8859-1 though.

Could you please tell me precisely which locale you're using? Please
post the results of the following commands on your system:
$ locale
$ locale -k charmap

If you're using the ISO-8859-1 charset, does switching to UTF-8 solve
your problem?
$ LANG=es_ES.utf-8 exaile

Cheers,

You are correct, I tried the same package at home (where I have the utf-8 locales) and it seems right! The problem was when I tried the package exaile at work where I use iso-8859-15 (euro) due to compatibility reasons with other software not debian related... So as you say it might be a problem with ISO.
