The proximate cause of that obscure error message appears to be that
  /usr/src/modules/alsa-driver/usb/usx2y/usbusx2y.h
says

   typedef struct {
        snd_usb_audio_t    chip;
        ...

but snd_usb_audio_t isn't defined anywhere.
