Package: acpi-support
Version: 0.90-4
Followup-For: Bug #373660

Actually, acpi_fakekey does work, at least for normal keys, and as root.
For instance,
# grep KEY_Q /usr/share/acpi-support/key-constants
KEY_Q=16
# acpi_fakekey 16
q

When used with a azerty keyboard, this becomes:
# acpi_fakekey 16
a

As a normal user, it does nothing. I guess this is because a non-root
is not allowed to write to the keyboard /dev/input/eventX.

But when one tries to acpi_fakekey $KEY_SLEEP
(142 in /sur/share/acpi-support/key_constants), no ACPI event is sent.
I think that is why the ThinkPad sleep key, does not work:
* It send an IBM hotkey... ACPI event.
* As writtent in /etc/acpi/events/ibm-sleepbtn, acpid launches
  /etc/acpi/sleepbtn.sh.
* That sleepbtn.sh script acpi_fakekey $KEY_SLEEP's.
* Nothing more. It probably sould send a button/sleep ACPI event, but
  does not.

Hope that may help. Regards,
