Package: gpm
Version: 1.19.6-25
Severity: normal

I edit files on the framebuffer console on my ppc ibook with vim. I
noticed that marking strings and then pasting them on another position
looses characters. I don't know (yet) who is to blame, but since copy
and paste is a gpm characteristic, I assume this bug to be at least
partially gpms fault. No X is running currently on this machine.

Example:
Original string, marked with the touchpad (hand edited to correct
errors):
"Bitte geben Sie die Minimalanzahl an Großbuchstaben an, die zwingend in den "
"Passwörn der Benutzer vorkommen müssen."

String as pasted with emulated middle mouse button:
"Bitte geben Sie die Minimalanzahl an Großuchstaben an, die zwingend in den "
"Passwöder Benutzer vorkommen mü"

If you compare these two string, you'll see the following differences:
"Bitte geben Sie die Minimalanzahl an Großuchstaben an, die zwingend in den "
                                        ~~~~
"Passwöder Benutzer vorkommen mü"
      ~~~                      ~~~

It looks like as if Umlauts and ß cause one or more characters to be
removed during paste.

Please tell me which other tests you want me to do.

Btw. vim is running in one VC, this vim spanned by reportbug in
another VC but the same effect appears if pasting within one VC.

When pasting the same strings in the console, I get funny characters
for the umlauts and ß but otherwise all characters are still present,
so this may indeed be a vim bug after all.
