You are running Xorg/Etch, right? We probably need to reassign to another package. Could you send the output of /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-core/script 3>&1 We need to know what hardware and software config you are running. Is the X process consuming lots of CPU when the freeze occur? If DRI is enabled, you could eventually try to disable it and tell us whether it changes anything.
