Hi, GEM has a Debian menu entry, just start it using Apss/Graphics/GEM. The problem is still there if one awaits pd to load GEM automatically from the menu. This might not always be a good idea, because it can lead to problems with name clashes. If it is ok for you I am going to close this bug.
