Close, but the file listing may used also elsewhere other than the
shell command prompt, where date based sorting is not an option. 
  
It would be nice if the filenames would be automatically follow
natural sorting criterias, like they would with NNN.

That would be alternative. but wouldn't help handling the numbered files.

I would be nice if the filenames would automatically have sequence
numbers that would be uniform, like NNN. Now the sort(1) command
cannot be easily applied to the names
