I read Ionut's recent advice:

I did "aptitude purge grace6" and confirmed that the directory
above did not exist any longer.

I did /usr/sbin/defoma-reconfigure .

And I installed grace6 again ("aptitude install grace6").
I still have this:
$ grace6
Broken or incomplete installation - read the FAQ!
$
I have grace (version 5) installed, by the way.
I don't seem to have anything like ec-fonts-mftraced :
$ dpkg -l | egrep ec-font
$ dpkg -l | egrep mftrace
$
