the laptop is the hard disk. The laptop lacks floppy, CD, and a built-in NIC, so an Orinoco-based PCMCIA card was used as the network connection. It also has a low enough amount of memory to put the installer into low memory mode. It would be nice if the installer displayed an option for manual package management at the tasksel stage; that would have let me trim the base install down to only the parts I need.
