You may have misunderstood the bug report : this was about the convenience symlinks (/dev/hdc -> /dev/cdrom , /dev/hdy -> dvd) not about the kernel names (/dev/hdc) missing. Could you open a new bug for this (which will provide updated information about your system) or tell me so i will do it . This looks like a kernel bug, could give data about the kernel : uname -a , if it is a debian one, or self compiled.
