There is an explicit warning in README.Debian, that these use cases are not supported and should be tested before. I know that this is unfortunate but it probably won't change in the foreseeable future as upstream has been pretty much dead. Making partimage little/big endian and 64bit safe is a major task and I don't have the time (and test machines) to hack on that.
