Package: gdm Version: 2.16.4-1 Severity: important When I first boot into runlevel 2 or 3 with gdm installed, the mouse works, but I am unable to use the keyboard to enter my username and password at the gdm prompt.
Booting into run level 1, logging in as root, then manually starting "/etc/init.d/gdm start" works. I can then use the keyboard with GDM to login. The keyboard always seems responsive during boot and in single user mode. The keyboard is USB, and I have tried purging and reinstalling GDM to no avail. X windows seems to be working as expected with startx or a manual gdm start from root. When the package installs there is an error message about /etc/skel and I think /lib/gdm or /var/lib/gdm, not sure as it's quick. A quick google search show other people have found this problem, but I could not see a gdm bug. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.19-trinity Locale: LANG=POSIX, LC_CTYPE=POSIX (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages gdm depends on: hi adduser 3.97 Add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.11 Debian configuration management sy hi enlightenment [x-window-ma 1:0.16.7.2-5 The Enlightenment Window Manager hi gksu 2.0.0-1 graphical frontend to su hi gnome-session 2.14.3-3 The GNOME 2 Session Manager hi gnome-terminal [x-terminal 2.14.2-1 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl hi ion3 [x-window-manager] 20060524-2 keyboard-friendly window manager w hi konsole [x-terminal-emulat 4:3.5.5-1 X terminal emulator for KDE hi kwin [x-window-manager] 4:3.5.5-1 the KDE window manager hi libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi hi libatk1.0-0 1.12.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit hi libattr1 2.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libc6 2.5-0exp3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries hi libcairo2 1.2.4-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra hi libdmx1 1:1.0.2-2 X11 Distributed Multihead extensio ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1 generic font configuration library hi libglade2-0 1:2.6.0-2 library to load .glade files at ru hi libglib2.0-0 2.12.4-1 The GLib library of C routines hi libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display hi libgtk2.0-0 2.8.20-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface hi libpam-modules 0.79-4 Pluggable Authentication Modules f hi libpam-runtime 0.79-3.2 Runtime support for the PAM librar hi libpam0g 0.79-4 Pluggable Authentication Modules l hi libpango1.0-0 1.14.8-2 Layout and rendering of internatio hi libpopt0 1.10-3 lib for parsing cmdline parameters hi librsvg2-2 2.14.4-2 SAX-based renderer library for SVG hi librsvg2-common 2.14.4-2 SAX-based renderer library for SVG hi libselinux1 1.32-3 SELinux shared libraries hi libwrap0 7.6.dbs-11 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra hi libx11-6 2:1.0.3-4 X11 client-side library hi libxau6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 authorisation library hi libxcursor1 1.1.7-4 X cursor management library hi libxdmcp6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc hi libxext6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.1-5 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-4 X11 Input extension library hi libxinerama1 1:1.0.1-4.1 X11 Xinerama extension library hi libxml2 2.6.27.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-5 X11 RandR extension library hi libxrender1 1:0.9.1-3 X Rendering Extension client libra hi lsb-base 3.1-22 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip hi metacity [x-window-manager 1:2.14.5-1 A lightweight GTK2 based Window Ma hi openbox [x-window-manager] 3.3-1 standards compliant, fast, light-w hi wmaker [x-window-manager] 0.92.0-6 NeXTSTEP-like window manager for X hi xbase-clients 1:7.1.ds-3 miscellaneous X clients hi xterm [x-terminal-emulator 223-1 X terminal emulator Versions of packages gdm recommends: hi dialog 1.0-20060221-1 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe pn gdm-themes <none> (no description available) hi whiptail 0.52.2-8 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe hi zenity 2.14.3-1 Display graphical dialog boxes fro -- debconf information: gdm/daemon_name: /usr/bin/gdm * shared/default-x-display-manager: gdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
