Hello,
in a quick test with my setup (same controller but reconnecting on other
USB ports or changing drives on that controller) the by-id method works
much better. The z25_persistent-cd.rules stopped growing and a drive
gets the same helper symlinks as before (cdrw1, dvdrw1), which is great.
When it would symlink the new /dev/cdrw* thing to /dev/cdrw (unless
/dev/cdrw already exists), then I would be happy.
DEVNAME=/dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/cd
DEVLINKS=/dev/sr0 /dev/cdroms/cdrom1
/dev/disk/by-id/usb-PLEXTOR_DVDR_PX-760A_222222295020
/dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:03:00.2-usb-0:4:1.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 /dev/cdrom1
/dev/cdrw1 /dev/dvd1 /dev/dvdrw1
reconnect to another USB port:
DEVNAME=/dev/scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/cd
DEVLINKS=/dev/sr0 /dev/cdroms/cdrom1
/dev/disk/by-id/usb-PLEXTOR_DVDR_PX-760A_222222295020
/dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:03:00.2-usb-0:1:1.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 /dev/cdrom1
/dev/cdrw1 /dev/dvd1 /dev/dvdrw1

Captain John Sheridan: Uh-huh.
Susan Ivanova: What was this one about?
Captain John Sheridan: Uh... Beauty... In the dark...
Susan Ivanova: Well... They must be working. You're beginning to sound just
like a Vorlon.
