I don't know if you know, but svn-buildpackage deb-layout template information can be stored in SVN (in svn properties or the file debian/svn-deblayout) and the origDir can be set in that file as being "..". When you will checkout the package structure will expand the ".." relative path and will write the .svn/deb-layout file with the expanded path, but it will be the right one.
