When I try downgrading a package synaptic does not show any error message. Simple example: I have both sarge and etch in my sources.list. 3dchess 0.8.1-12 is installed. If I try downgrading the version via "Package->Force Version...->0.8.1.11(stable)->Force Version" the synaptic GUI and the mouse pointer shortly changes and then all switches back to normal and nothing changed at all.
