Moreover: *The scsi-idle patch (for 2.6 kernels) provides only a silly IOCTL for finding out the time since the last disk access. The same information can be extracted by monitoring /sys/block/sda/stat, with sufficient accuracy for the indented application (spinning down hard disks).
*The user-space tools are superfluous. Stopping and starting drives can be done with sdparm or sg_start. (Additionally, scsi-idle uses the deprecated SG_IO interface.) Suggest removing the package from Debian altogether.
