Further to this message back from September, its now December and two major releases (1.1 and 1.2) are both out and considered better than the 1.0 that this package produces. I'll watch this post and gladly test it when you rerelease php5-xcache with v1.2. To my understanding then, this bug should really be considered "Importantant" or "Grave", because without it being compatible with PHP5.2, it is removed from debian testing/unstable.
