Hi, ISTR that when I discussed this on #debian-kernel, I was told that one of the problem is that linux-2.6 is already very long to build on x86 (due to the numerous flavors).
Perhaps it makes sense to build one type of kernels in a separate source package, for example all bigmem flavors in a linux-bigmem source?
