Blocking maintenance is a nuisance and there is some talk on the postgrey 
mailing list about how to solve the problem (should be easy, berkeley db 
does support transactions, after all); other than that, I can't remember 
seeing complaints about the performance.

And about the other thing - I have nothing to add, I'm sorry.  I'll just 
leave the bug open for now.
