Sorry, I cannot reproduce it. Today I've installed etch using RC1 netinst image, ran apt-get update; apt-get upgrade (udev and klibc stuff got upgraded, among other things), and rebooted. The system booted without problems, and I'm able to run the klibc-provided utilities (true, fstype, sleep, cat were the ones I tried) without any problem. If you have any ideas about what causes it for you, please let me know. In the meantime, I'll tag the bug unreproducible.
