Package: wwwoffle Version: 2.9-2 Severity: normal In this thread, we find out why wwwoffle doesn't propogate Content-Length headers onto the client:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg01979.html Alas, this is far from ideal (progress meters on browsers are quite useful for large downloads), and there are many situations in which the webserver sends a valid content-length, wwwoffle is currently downloading the page for the first time (so not already cached on disk)[1], is not modifying the content in any way, and the compression is going to be the same as the input compression, so we can just reuse what the webserver sent us in the first place. Now the post above has patches (rather large ones he admits) to reuse the Content-Length in this situation. Perhaps we could look into the patch to find the bit relevant, and include this in debian? [1] If it's already on disk, it's not like we rely on the Content-Length anyway, because it's going to be downloaded fast enough that no-one will care for the absense of a progress meter in a browser. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-1-686 Locale: LANG=en_AU, LC_CTYPE=en_AU (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages wwwoffle depends on: ii coreutils 5.97-5.2 The GNU core utilities ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.9 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 2.17.3 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime wwwoffle recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * wwwoffle/string_port_number: 8080 wwwoffle/ageline_added: wwwoffle/use-htdig: false wwwoffle/ppp-fetch: true * wwwoffle/use-ppp-interface: false wwwoffle/ageline_lost: wwwoffle/text_new_location: wwwoffle/conf-perm: * wwwoffle/string_parent_proxy: none * wwwoffle/select_html_lang: en (English) wwwoffle/ipv6defaultnone: * wwwoffle/fetchfrequency: off wwwoffle/note_upgrade_config_failed: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
