No, but how about this: I'll contact upstream and ask whether they have an opinion about whether we should include this in the debian version of the package. If they don't have a serious objection, I can go ahead and stick it in. Upstream releases of ICU are very infrequent, and I would think it unlikely that we'll see another one before the freeze for Etch.
I'd be happy if you did this, but please don't worry about it too much. (I really appreciate your looking into this at length and sending me all these alternative possible solutions.) It's not going to help for Etch unless this patch, + a rebuild of the intermediate dependency (boost::regex) + a rebuild of the package itself (monotone) all somehow get into Etch, and there's a bug open against the monotone package that will probably be worked around for etch by just giving up on avoiding thread safety, so. [monotone is a single-threaded program, but somehow it's really really hard to not get all this locking overhead...]
Another potential solution for you would be to locally modify the ICU package and build your own version.
I've done that for experimental purposes, but it isn't a long-term solution -- we want one that works for the packaged, distributed monotone binaries.
There's another patch that I am going to include in ICU. When I rebuild and test, I'll try your patch as well. I'll let you know how it goes. This will be sometime after Thanksgiving.
Great! No hurry at all, as I said above (plus, I'm going to be offline myself till after Thanksgiving). zw -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
