The Debian ppc64 port has an archive on alioth which follows the Debian
unstable distribution. The buildd which takes care of building all
new package versions is a PowerMac G5, which itself runs the ppc64 port.

Currently about 87% of the packages from the Debian unstable distribution
are available in the ppc64 archive on alioth. The ppc64 has
its own kernel. However, an installer is still missing. The only way
to install it is to 'debootstrap' it by hand.

Also, the ppc64 archive on alioth uses some patches (like
the emacs21 patch) which have been filed to the BTS but which are
waiting to be applied by the respective maintainers.

There is no urgent need for those patches to be applied immediately.
The ppc64 port can live with the current situation. Of course the sarge
release should have priority. After that, it would certainly be nice
if these patches (or different ones solving the problem) could be
applied.
