It is exactly this problem: http://lists.shmoo.com/pipermail/hostap/2006-October/014354.html I propose that we revert recent backport of fixes/enhancements to the driver_madwifi code, so that we can at leas take advantage of the partial hostapd support (everything != plaintext) that has proven to be working well in the released version 0.5.5.
