Package: libpam-ldap Severity: wishlist The package will right now unconditionally overwrite configuration that quite possibly is user-modified. That's not the behaviour I expect from a Debian package, even though the file isn't tagged as a conffile.
There's no guarantee that the user has seen the Debconf question (think for example DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive), and I am certainly not alone in not bothering to read all comments in the configuration file when I know exactly which directives I'm going to alter anyway. May I suggest using UCF instead? Then you don't have to bother with magic Debconf comments and asking permission to make changes, UCF will handle it for you seamlessly, and I will still feel that my custom configuration is still considered sacred and be safe knowing it won't vanish unexpectedly.
