Thanks for the response. I don't (yet) have the expertise to tackle this. I did notice the ia32 and ia64 directories and compilation problem when I attempted to port the package (I did the same thing you did).
Sorry, but I probably won't be helping much on this. I have raised the issue again with upstream, in case they have more potential to do it now than in the past.
