..I know, I use it and yenta in my vintage 5 TP 760EDs.

.._nothing_. Not even in the blacklists.

..could it be udev or something loading it and something
else removing it???

..grep'ing thru /etc, I found ...
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ ll /etc/default/pcmcia*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 271 May 24 01:57 /etc/default/pcmcia
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 271 May 24 01:58 /etc/default/pcmciautils
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ md5sum /etc/default/pcmcia*
b0c6efd96ac98cf8a5dc66862e9ce9cb  /etc/default/pcmcia
b0c6efd96ac98cf8a5dc66862e9ce9cb  /etc/default/pcmciautils
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ cat /etc/default/pcmcia
# Defaults for PCMCIA (sourced by /etc/init.d/pcmcia)
PCMCIA=no
#yes
PCIC=i82365
PCIC_OPTS=
CORE_OPTS=
CARDMGR_OPTS=
# If REFRAIN_FROM_IFUP is set to yes, cardmgr will not bring up
# network interfaces. They should be brought up by hotplug instead.
REFRAIN_FROM_IFUP=yes

...and ofcourse /etc/init.d/pcmcia.
/etc/init.d/pcmciautils does not mention the
i82365|yenta|tcic|etc workarounds.

..wiping clean /etc/default/pcmcia* had no effect on the rah-rah loop,
so I'm running low on ideas now.
