Hi, deleting the gconf* and gnome2* folders helps - after that I had window-borders with compiz. Is this a general compiz/gconf bug, or did it happen because of the previos installation of compiz from the ubunti package from compiz.net? Unsetting XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS did not help (the variable wasn't set before, as I saw). I still have some issues with TwinView, but thats nothing for THIS bug ;-)
