you got any clues as to what's going on, here?
i did this:
apt-get source gpsd
apt-get build-dep gpsd
cd gpsd-2.xxxxxxx
dpkg-buildpackage gpsd
aaaand... it failed, because a library package (libsm-dev) hadn't been
installed, despite it being mentioned as an indirect build-dependency.
well, that's the theory, anyway.
of course, i immediately moved on, to get a build working, by installing
libsm-dev, thereby neatly destroying the non-working state.
duh.
