Or at least help with testing.  I confirm that the change proposed by
Andrea Gelmini <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> seems to work, at least
according to my simple test (below).  This was under Linux 2.6.17 on
an ext3 filesystem.  Other kernels or filesystems may differ,
according to:

http://www.suse.de/~aj/linux_lfs.html

(which is dated Feb 2005).

Looking through the build logs, I don't see any relevant compiler warnings.

What other tests should be run?

I don't have any experience with the Large File Support in Linux.  I
would appreciate advice.
