The request was to enable EFI support as modules (or at least CONFIG_EFI_VARS), but I now see that it has been enabled unconditionally. This seems an unnecessary increase of the size of the kernel. Please consider changing this for both 2.6.18 and for 2.6.17 (if there is a next upload to testing).
