When an ATI graphics card is found, the packages fglrx-control,
fglrx-driver and fglrx-kernel-src should be installed. The packages
are in non-free.
Here is device from an example machine where these packages proved
useful to get hardware accelerated opengl.
01:00.0 0300: 1002:5b62
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV380
[Radeon X600 (PCIE)]
01:00.1 0380: 1002:5b72
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV380 [Radeon X600]
In addition to installing these packages, the X configuration needed
to be modified to use the fglrx driver, and a few steps had to be done
to compile the required kernel module:
module-assistant prepare
aptitude install gcc-4.0
module-assistant a-i fglrx
modprobe fglrx
I used a kernel compiled with gcc 4.0, so I needed to make sure that
compiler was available when building the kernel module. Perhaps these
steps can be automated in some way?
