Aye. We'll probably have to wait till the new OpenPrinting protocol (PAPI) has stabilised before Xprint can gather the setting itself dynamically. But unfortunately, PAPI is only currently under development. Maybe in the meantime I'll get the flash of inspiration required to get the same results from IPP, which would open up CUPS servers to Xprint. > Ok. I'm not sure why thunderbird recommends: rather than suggests: xprint - possibly an oversight on behalf of the thunderbird maintainer, or maybe he saw it as the best way to allow the printing of non-latin emails. On the other hand, the "default Debian desktop", in the sense of Task->End User->Desktop environment, depends on x-window-system-core, not x-window-system (and mozilla-browser not mozilla-thunderbird). So the simple answer is no, Xprint is not installed by default. > > p.s. are you sure you two are not twins? #298956...#298959... > > Only people who sometimes manage to miscommunicate while being on the > same irc channell.. :-) :) By the way, I should mention that xprint is currently stalled by the dysfunctional NEW queue. xprt was dropped from xfree86, so I wanted to take the opportunity to rationalise the package names, using "xprint" instead of "xprint-xprintorg". I'm not sure what to say about this - I didn't realise the state of the NEW queue was sick when I made the upload. What's the best thing to do about it? I'd prefer not to undo the changes if I didn't have to. (I would hope to see the dependent package update their dependencies to "xprint" from "xprt-xprintorg", before sarge would be nice).
