Package: maxima
Version: 5.9.3-1.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

maxima -r ":lisp (start-server 9999)"

opens a connection to the specified port, but sends nothing, not
even the initial "pid =". This causes xmaxima being unable to use
maxima, reporting (after some time) "Starting maxima timed out. Wait
longer?".

It might be some problem inherited by gcl, as recompiling with
testing's (but not unstable) gcl on amd64 seems to solve this problem
(but introduced similar errors which could be just a cloaked variant of
this one), but my lisp knowledge is not enough to be sure...
