Distribution: Debian testing/unstable Package: NetworkManager Severity: Normal Version: GNOME2.14.2 0.6.x Gnome-Distributor: Debian Synopsis: NetworkManager much slower at connecting to wireless AP than commandline Bugzilla-Product: NetworkManager Bugzilla-Component: general Bugzilla-Version: 0.6.x Description: Description of Problem:
Upon bootup and gnome startup, NetworkManager (via the gnome applet) attempts to connect to my home wireless network. The first attempt invariably fails after a minute or so. Watching the output of "iwconfig ath0" shows the wireless device scanning but never locking onto the access point. The second attempt generally succeeds, but occasionally a third attempt is required. Running the commands "iwconfig ath0 essid <essid>; dhclient ath0" consistently connects within seconds, even on a fresh boot with NetworkManager disabled. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Attempt to connect to wireless network Actual Results: Connection fails on first attempt but generally succeeds on second attempt. The entire process takes several minutes and is much slower than via the commandline. Expected Results: A network connection brougth up as quickly as via the commandline. How often does this happen? Every bootup. Additional Information: The wireless card is an Atheros mini PCI card with the madwifi-ng driver v0.9.2. lspci output: 0000:02:05.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) The laptop is an IBM ThinkPad X22. networking-manager: 0.6.3-2 networking-manager-gnome: 0.6.3-2 -- Patrick Mahoney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
