There are currently various possibilities explaining this, either the console is not redirected to /dev/hvsi0 (despite it being added as serial terminal in rootskel), or the machine somehow hangs because of modprobing some random non-working module. I have some intuitive preferency for the first reason. I was not able to get d-i to output more debugs, since i cannot really set the kernel boot args, and forcing BOOT_DEBUG=2 or putting a -x in the coldplug script didn't help. forcing BOOT_DEBUG=3 complained about : Warning: unable to open an initial console.
