Hi Ola,

Would it be possible to forward upstream?

I agree your care about to suid it.

        Regards.

Hi,
I'am surprised that no method s provided to launch pptp by normal users.

As long pptp needs pppd to work and pppd can be launched via pon by users in
the group dip, I sugest to make pptp usable by the same method. I succeded by
changing the permisions and group of /usr/sbin/pptp to macth those of pppd:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /usr/sbin/pptp /usr/sbin/pppd
-rwsr-xr-- 1 root dip 260920 2006-07-12 18:34 /usr/sbin/pppd
-rwsr-xr-- 1 root dip 53076 2006-04-01 12:26 /usr/sbin/pptp
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

This allow me to use the pon and poff methods supplied by ppp, as long as I
include the full path of pptp in the pty line of the /etc/ppp/peers/ file to
workaround the #270343 bug, ie:

pty "/usr/sbin/pptp mypptpserver.x.y.z --nolaunchpppd"

I think this is up to the local admin to decide actually. I do not really
want to make is suid root as it may be a security flaw. I'm not convinced
that it is robust enough to handle that.

Regards,

// Ola

   Thanks
