It would be nice if it were possible to select the python version used
by the default /usr/bin/pychecker script.
Even better would be if this method were compatible with the one used by
the old pychecker package: the $PYTHONVER variable.
First, I want you to know that I was not happy about getting rid of
$PYTHONVER. I used it all the time. I'm with you on this one.
The problem is that putting $PYTHONVER back will only allow you to
switch between the one or two "standard" python versions supported by
the new Python framework. As I understand it, for Etch, the framework
will only support Python 2.3 and Python 2.4. Even if you pass in
$PYTHONVER and have python2.1 or python2.2 installed, pychecker won't
run with those older Python versions -- the package simply won't be
available to them.
I am willing to apply your patch. The question to you is, is
$PYTHONVER really going to be useful if all you can do is switch
between the default python and up to one other version? If you
think it will be, I'll apply the patch and upload a new package
sometime soon.
Let me know what you think.
