I can reproduce the problem with

 * xine
 * totem-xine
 * vlc

and vice versa (starting xine fine, then vlc solarizes...)

I cannot reproduce the problem with mplayer - this player will only
solarize, if I start up another (above) player before. So it may be a
problem of xine together with my actual i915 xorg (dri?) drivers. It
works fine with all players on the same. Hm, I am not shure where to
announce this bug now...
