This seems to be a implication of the original "can not add user" bug. 
I'd prefer fixing the original problem. Perhaps slapd should detect that
adding a user will fail during upgrade and not do the changes at all. 
After all, it will run perfectly fine as root user, we just tried to 
make it more secure for you...
