looking at the backtrace again, you'll see in frames 5/6 that pango was giving a warning. That seems to be the problem, cf. http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-i18n-list/2005-August/msg00023.html
However, even if I have a corrupt font, the fact that pango gives a warning shouldn't crash xchat! IOW it seems that the code handling pango warnings is broken and segfaults. johannes
