By default, dpkg-reconfigure locales does not provides the es_US.UTF-8 locales as it is not a standard one. I guess you manually added it to /etc/locale.gen, which is fine. Could you please confirm that? > *** update-locale: Error: invalid locale settings: LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 > LANG=es_US.UTF-8 > ---------- > locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory > locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory > locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory > ANSI_X3.4-1968 > ---------- The problem there is that the LC_ALL environment variable is somehow defined to en_US.UTF-8 on your system (note *en*, not *es*). With such a configuration you need to generate both en_US.UTF-8 and es_US.UTF-8 locales. This variable is not written by the 'dpkg-reconfigure locales' scripts, which only touch the LANG environment variable, so it is not clear from where it comes from. You should maybe check in /etc/locale.conf or grep /etc, and remove it, unless you prefer to generate both locales.
