There are two problems with the i18n of your debconf templates: $ msgfmt --statistics templates.pot 0 translated messages, 3 untranslated messages. $ debconf-updatepo $ msgfmt --statistics templates.pot 0 translated messages, 9 untranslated messages. You should consider adding debconf-updatepo to the clean target of the debian/rules to ensure having always up-to-date PO files. The POTFILES.in is incomplete, you seems to have two templates file (lastfmsubmitd.templates and lastmp.templates) while only lastfmsubmitd.templates is in this POTFILES.in.
