Package: linux-image-amd64 Version: 7.1.3-1~bpo13+1 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainers, I am writing to request a config change in the Debian kernel to enable CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_DEFERRED_TAKEOVER.
Currently, this config is disabled. I understand this was likely done to ensure the GRUB renders boot entries properly. However, completely disabling this in the kernel config prevents a seamless boot experience utilizing the BGRT and Plymouth. This results in annoying screen flickering on modern UEFI systems. Users have no option to override it since the kernel does not provide any command-line parameters to forcefully enable a deferred takeover if it was disabled in the kernel config. I kindly request enabling CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_DEFERRED_TAKEOVER by default in upcoming kernel releases for trixie, trixie-backports, forky and sid. Enabling this config offers maximum flexibility since the kernel provides a command-line parameter to disable it if needed for GRUB/Debugging concerns, If the Debian team or specific users wish to preserve immediate console output they can simply put "fbcon=nodefer" to the kernel command-line.
