Package: gnome-shell Version: 48.7-0+deb13u2 Severity: important Tags: patch upstream
Dear Debian GNOME Maintainers, I am experiencing a severe regression where the Wayland session completely crashes (segfault) and restarts when waking the monitor from sleep. This results in the loss of all running applications. This issue occurs specifically when experimental fractional scaling (`scale-monitor-framebuffer`) is enabled on a 4K display. The logs show a "Failed to allocate texture" error due to Mutter requesting a texture size that exceeds the GPU's hardware limits during the hotplug/wake phase. I reported this upstream, and the GNOME developers confirmed the issue. It has already been fixed in the upstream main branch via this Merge Request: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/4150 However, the upstream maintainer explicitly stated that they will not be issuing a new point release for GNOME 48, advising me to reach out downstream: "There are no more 48 releases, but you can ask your distro to backport the fix." Since this bug causes severe data loss (force-closing all apps) for users relying on Wayland fractional scaling, could you please cherry-pick the commit from MR 4150 into the Debian `gnome-shell` package for Trixie? Thank you very much for your time and for maintaining GNOME in Debian! Best regards, Richard Li
